CARING FOR WIDOWS AND WIDOWERS

Key Scripture: Psalm 68:5

The death of a spouse changes nearly every part of daily life. Grief may include loneliness, financial concerns, altered routines, and the loss of shared dreams.

The church is called to provide compassionate and continuing care. Support should not disappear after the funeral. Anniversaries, holidays, and ordinary evenings may be especially difficult.

Friends can help by listening without rushing grief, offering specific practical assistance, and continuing invitations to fellowship. Widowed people should be respected as capable adults rather than treated only as recipients of care.

Grief has no single timetable. Faith does not eliminate sorrow. Jesus Himself wept, and believers may mourn while holding the hope of resurrection.

Seventh-day Adventists look forward to Christ’s return, when those who sleep in Him will rise and death will finally be defeated.

Prayer:
God of all comfort, hold widows and widowers close. Give them supportive friends, daily strength, and hope in the resurrection. Amen.
