Key Scripture: Isaiah 66:22″23
The prophet Isaiah presents a beautiful picture of the new heavens and the new earth. In that restored creation, all humanity comes before God in worship from one Sabbath to another.
The Sabbath began in a perfect world before sin. It also appears in the Bible’s vision of the world made new. This gives the seventh day a powerful connection with both humanity’s origin and its eternal future.
Every Sabbath is a small foretaste of the coming kingdom. We temporarily step away from toil, conflict, and worldly pressure to enjoy worship, peace, fellowship, and delight in God. These blessings point beyond themselves to the complete restoration Christ will bring.
The present world still contains pain, injustice, sickness, and death. Sabbath worship does not ignore these realities. Instead, it declares that they will not have the final word. Jesus is coming again, evil will end, and creation will be renewed.
This hope gives strength to believers. The Sabbath reminds us weekly that history is moving toward God’s promised future. Our rest is an act of trust in the One who will make all things new.
As we worship today, we join a story that began in Eden and will continue throughout eternity.
Prayer:
Father, thank You for the promise of a new earth. Let each Sabbath renew our hope in Christ’s return and prepare us for eternal worship with You. Amen.
